Welcome to the Mayo River State Park Website!
For decades the North Carolina State Parks Division has considered the Mayo River a top priority for a state park in the northern piedmont. And, within the Mayo valley, there has been a long-time interest in preserving this river. The Mayo is a mountain-like stream in the piedmont, carrying some of the purest water in the region, flowing through a heavily forested gorge, supporting smallmouth bass and other game fish, and featuring a rich variety of wildflowers and wildlife. In addition, the river attracts several thousand boaters annually to the Class 3 rapids at the falls at Anglin Mill where two public paddle accesses are located. This website has been created to provide information about the Mayo River State Park project and will be updated regularly with news and information about the park.
